Lasix
Lasix (furosemide) is a drug specially intended for the treatment of fluid retention in patients diagnosed with liver disease, kidney disorder or heart failure. This drug can be also prescribed for patients who need to control high blood pressure – and that case it will need to be taken regularly as prescribed without missing doses. Your health care provider needs to be notified of the following health conditions in case you have them: lupus, liver disease, gout, diabetes, allergy to sulfa drugs, and kidney disease. The presence of some of these health conditions can make it impossible for you to take this medicine, or a dose adjustment will be required. Never take Lasix if you are unable to urinate or if you are allergic to the active ingredient of this medicine. To make sure you are benefitting from the treatment your blood will need to be tested regularly. Make sure you show up for all the appointments. If you have been prescribed the liquid form of this medicine – make sure you take it using a special measuring device, as otherwise you may take more or less than recommended. In both of those cases your treatment will not be as safe and efficient as it could be otherwise. Serious side effects of Lasix are quite rare and need to be reported directly to your health care provider as soon as you get them. Such serious side effects as dry mouth, easy bruising, loss of appetite, restlessness, hearing loss, dark urine, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, drowsiness, unusual weakness, jaundice, clay-colored stools, and peeling skin rash are possible. Less serious side effects are more likely and can include: constipation, headache, tingly feeling, burning, dizziness, stomach pain, blurred vision, and diarrhea. You have to report these mild side effects to your health care provider only if they interfere with your everyday activities and make it impossible fort you to carry on with your normal life. This drug is supposed to be stored in some place where it will not be accessed by others. To make sure your treatment is efficient, you are not supposed to combine Lasix with any other medications, such as streptomycin, cold medicine, blood pressure medications, indomethacin, steroids, ethacrynic acid, digoxin, aspirin, lithium, gentamicin, netilmicin, or diet pills, as well as any other prescription or over-the-counter medications without previously discussing it with your health care provider.
